First Review Race 3 by Umair Sandhu

Four years ago, in 2013, the Tauranis and Abbas-Mustan delivered a taut, enthralling thriller in RACE 2. The intricate plot, the serpentine twists and turns in the narrative, good looking men and women double crossing each other, the dazzling locations and the adrenaline pumping stunts and chases left an ineradicable impression on the heart and mind of the moviegoer. Besides, the super success of the film at the BO fuelled rumors that its sequel was on the cards.
The director Remo DSouza latest offering RACE 3, which packs glitz, glam and style with A-listers carries the baggage of tremendous expectations. The stars, the stunning locales, the breath-taking visuals, the mesmeric songs, the electrifying chase, the chic styling — everything you see on screen resembles an international flick.
In a nutshell, RACE 3 is a first-rate product all the way. It’s not just style, but there as substance as well. Writer Shiraz Ahmed story & screenplay has several moments that merit a mention. The best part is, the writing is full of energy and surprises, not once does it take the been-there-seen-that route. It would be foolhardy to single out a few sequences since the film gathers speed from its inception itself. One of its USPs is that every character is out to double cross the other, each character has grey shades and the dangerous games they indulge in make it an exhilarating cinematic experience.

Cinematography is Eye Catching. The stunning locales of Middle East are captured lucidly by the DoP. But, most importantly, the movement of the camera at several places deserves the highest praise. The action/chase sequences are top notch, with every stunt looking well choreographed. Music is Decent. Dialogues are Clap Worthy. Direction by Remo is Terrific.

Talking of performances, Salman Khan delivers a terrific performance yet again. Salman is the lifeline, the real treasure of Race 3. He sinks his teeth into the character and, in several sequences, peels off the mask of superstardom and brings the actor to the fore. Bobby Deol is Back with Bang. Anil Kapoor acts very well.

Jacqueline has the best scenes in the film. She looks stunning and immerses herself into her character completely. Daisy Shah looks gorgeous too, but her character is sidelined after a point. Saqib Saleem is decent.
On the whole, RACE 3 is a superb entertainer all the way. It’s not just style, it has substance as well. At the box-office, the tremendous hype coupled with the holidays in the opening week as well as the extensive release will ensure huge numbers in the initial week. But, most importantly, the film has legs to enjoy a spirited run at the box-office. Smash Hit!

First Review Kaala by Umair Sandhu

It can’t get bigger than this ? Rajnikanth, the real superstar and style king, and Pa. Ranjith the showman of Tamil cinema, coming together for Kaala. The good news is that this awesome combo is able to whip up an entertainment extravaganza that is delicious and good to savour.

Rajnikanth has never looked so good on screen with his stylised look and presentation, Patori body language, and dialogue delivery. Pa. Ranjith has been able to get the right balance in a tightrope walk between Rajni’s larger-than-life image and the changing taste of today’s mass multiplex audience without losing his famous touch. In short, Pa. Ranjith has given us a more peppy and upmarket Rajni that is sure to work with today’s youth audience.
There is only one hero here, as in all Rajnikanth films- Rajni himself. Such is the overpowering screen presence of his cinematic charisma in every frame of the film. The film works big time as Pa. Ranjith has made the film on a grand scale, in a riot of colours, with superbly choreographed action scenes. All this comes with top-of-the line techno-finesse, perhaps the best ever in Tamil cinema.
Technically, ? Kaala ? is a revelation. Paisa Vasool Story & Screenplay. Bone Breaking Action Stunts. Eye Catching Cinematography, Art Director work is enticing, especially the sets in slum. Background Score is TERRIFIC ! Direction by Pa. Ranjith is Fantastic. Editing is Sharp !

There is no Dull Moment throughout the film. Rajnikanth gave Award Worthy Performance ! He Stole the Show all the way. Nana Patekar is OUTSTANDING ! He nailed it. Huma Qureshi also acts well. Good acting by all supporting actors.

Overall !! Sure to fetch an earth-shattering opening, the film will create a pandemonium at the box-office, cementing the status of Rajnikanth as the darling of the masses and making the distributors laugh all the way to the bank. It has Blockbuster written all over it!

First Review of Bharat Ane Nenu by Umair Sandhu

Mahesh Babu, one of the biggest superstars in South India, has come up with his latest movie, Bharat Ane Nenu. Despite his recent movies not performing well at the ticket counter, this movie carries huge expectations as the trailers and songs have become popular. Does it live up to expectations? Let’s find out.

Artistes’ Performances:
The film is undoubtedly one of Mahesh Babu’s best performance in his entire career. As well-educated, good-natured CM, Mahesh Babu oozes charm as well as gives his best in the emotionally charged scenes. Even in the action episodes, he exhibits class. Mahesh Babu is the pillar of this movie.

Kiara Advani looks beautiful, shares great chemistry with Mahesh and has solid role too. Prakash is also in terrific form. Good Performances by all supporting actors.

Technical Excellence:
Rich frames are the striking feature of the movie. Appreciation should go to the cinematographer. He has distinct style in filming hero elevating scenes.

Songs by Devi Sri Prasad are catchy. Editing is good.

  • Mahesh Babu’s performance
  • Kiara Advani’s charm
  • Elevation of heroism
  • Dialogues
  • Direction
  • Cinematography

Director Siva Koratala has proven that he could present regular mass movies in style with ‘Mirchi’, Janatha Garage & Srimanthudu. In Bharat Ane Nenu, he has used the same style but has strong content and has narrated the movie in focused manner, not deviating from the story.
Dialogues written by the director will also make the fans happy.

Overall : Mahesh Babu’s class performance, Kiara’s charm, good message, right mix of mass and class elements make the movie a good commercial entertainer. All in all, Bharat Ane Nenu is the movie where content and commercial elements have blended well.

First Review Padmaavat by Umair Sandhu

Sanjay Leela Bhansali was determined to make a film on the lives of Padmavati and Khaliji for quite some time now. The supremely talented raconteur kept vacillating between numerous actors, before he chose on the present star cast of PADMAAVAT. Although historicals were well-liked — and commercially feasible, if I may add — at a point of time, the swelling budgets and comprehensive study and research that went into making a historical compelled quite a few present-day film-makers to abandon their dream projects and opt for contemporary themes. Bhansali stood his ground and waited for the opportune time to commence the project in question.

Padmaavat is Bhansali’s most ambitious project to date. The love story, the conflict, the dramatic altercations, the battle sequences and of course, the ostentatious setting… It is an enthralling period film that transports you to an era you had only read about in the history books. At the same time, Bhansali introduces the on-screen characters and the sequence of events with utmost simplicity so that the enthusiastic spectator is able to get the grip of the goings-on effortlessly.

Clearly, Bhansali seems to be motivated by the classics helmed by the Hollywood counterparts. He has a splendid sense of narrating an epic tale, which is evident when you think of the gigantic scale of the film. The battle sequences are awe-inspiring and have been executed with magnificence. The production design is eye-filling and makes you acknowledge the effort that must’ve gone into recreating the long-gone era. The apparel as well as the styling of the characters is truly majestic.

Bhansali seamlessly weaves music in the historical. Filmed with care, the songs [also composed by Bhansali] are mesmeric and have been choreographed with precision. The ones that stand out is Ghoomer. The background score is wonderful. Padmaavat is gorgeously lensed, with the DoP capturing the colors, setting and emotions meticulously. Editing is crisp.

Bhansali makes sure the actors get major acting opportunities this time. Ranveer Singh is stupendous and clearly in top form. He holds you attentive right from the first frame till the penultimate moments. The effortlessness with which he gets into the skin of the character is noteworthy. It must be said that this is his finest work to date. Deepika is enchanting as Padmavati and displays the strength as an actor in several pertinent episodes. She gave Career Best Performance ever. Shahid Kapoor Steals the Show all the way. He Nailed it !!! Loved his Romance with deepika. Aditi Rao Hyderi will surprise u. Supporting Cast is Top Notch.

On the whole, Padmaavat is a cinematic gem that you just cannot miss. Tremendous performances, deft direction, power-packed screenwriting and dialogue, melodious soundtrack and of course, the lavish mounting — this film has it all. Strongly recommended!

First Review of Agnyaathavaasi by Umair Sandhu

Ratings by Umair Sandhu :  ☆☆☆☆
Cast: Pawan Kalyan, Keerthy Suresh, Anu Emmanuel, Boman Irani.
Music: Anirudh Ravichander
Producer:  S. Radha Krishna
Director: Trivikram Srinivas

Pawan Kalyan as usual a powerful crowd puller appeared with right grace and glory. He performed jovially with his trade mark dialogue delivery. The dances were not so complicated but just pleasant. He Steals the Show all the way. He is ONE MAN SHOW. Keerthy & Anu also gave Top Notch Performances. Decent Performances by all supporting actors.

The title “Agnyaathavaasi ” has the power to pull the family crowds. At the same time the content in it is appealing equally good for mass audience. Thus it stood as a product with right blend of elements those entertain both families and masses.

Trivikram’s pen that has huge expectations met the requirement but gone overboard in some parts.  It being Pawan Kalyan’s film audiences do expect more and more from his pen. Though there are some just normal sparks here and there with respect to his dialogues in 1st half, he has shown his true mettle all over. Overall it has Massy & Racy First & 2nd Half.

And coming to the music part, all the songs are impressive. Fantastic Dialogues, Bone Breaking Action Stunts & First Rate Direction & Cinematography.

Om the whole, Agnyaathavaasi comes across as a paisa vasool, seeti-maar unadulterated entertainer which will be loved by classes and masses alike. At the box office, the lack of a credible opposition, perfect release timing [festival period] combined with an extended 5-day weekend will ensure that the film will break records and emerge as the biggest hit of the year so far. The film has got ‘B-L-O-C-K-B-U-S-T-E-R’ written all over it. Go for it!

First Review Tiger Zinda Hai by Umair Sandhu

Salman Khan and Yash Raj, the premier production house, unleash their third collaboration together. The Pied Piper of the Hindi film industry, who is on a dream run, delivering one Blockbuster after another, is expected to shatter previous records and set new ones at the box-office.

As a standalone film, TIGER ZINDA HAI is enthralling and most significantly, an entertaining motion picture. On the exterior, it is a compelling love story/thriller. But beneath the entertainment that it offers, it carries a message as well. Loud and clear. If the spectators can see through the coating, great. Even if they don’t, they will yet go back in high spirits.

  • Ali Abbas Zafar direction is thoughtful, focused and never goes off-track. In fact, TIGER ZINDA HAI takes the detective genre in Hindi movies to a fresh altitude. TIGER ZINDA HAI travels across the globe to capture some of the most exotic locales in the world and the DoP captures them with flourish. It has has a pleasant score  ‘Dil Diyaan Gallan ‘  is the pick of the lot, followed by Swag Se Swagat. The stunts are truly crackling. In fact, the action sequences are of the heart-in-the-mouth variety and if one may add, such stunts and chases have never ever been witnessed on the Hindi screen before. The dialogue is intelligent and sharp.

When you have Salman in a movie titled TIGER ZINDA HAI , the director doesn’t need to convince the audience that he is a tiger. Salman looks the part! Clutching the thriller with his dynamic presence and performance, Salman is, without doubt, the lifeline of this film. He pulls off the part with flamboyance. Also, he brings in so much visceral rousing energy to the film, every time he appears on the screen. Salman and Katrina pair up after a hiatus in TIGER ZINDA HAI and their chemistry is electrifying. Though an out-and-out Salman starrer, Katrina is not relegated to the backseat. Neither is she Salman’s arm candy here. She has a meaty part and to her credit, she handles it with aplomb. Also, watch out for her stunts… This is a new Katrina here!

Good acting by all supporting actors & specially Villain ! He Nailed it.

On the whole, TIGER ZINDA HAI is a high-octane thriller that works big time. This one has style and substance, both, besides dazzling action, stunning international locales and stylish execution. Most importantly, it has Salman Khan, the trump card of this enterprise. There’s no denying that Salman’s charisma has resulted in a mind-blowing, astounding, never-seen-before start at the ticket window, but the film’s content will sustain it thereafter. The film has long legs to prolong its splendid run. This is, without doubt, Salman’s best. Sure shot Blockbuster. !
